Hair loss can be difficult for some people, especially since, for baldness, no cure has been found for the moment. However, there is a medical solution: a hair surgery procedure with a micro hair transplant. This exercise should be carried out by experts for the best results.
Note that hair loss is not an exclusively male problem. Indeed, for a hair transplant, women or men can just as easily be treated. Therefore, this intervention is mainly presented as an operation for baldness, but it can be performed in response to other pathologies.
What Is a Hair Transplant?
First and foremost, it is important to remember that hair transplantation is a surgical procedure. Therefore, it must be performed by a cosmetic surgeon, assisted by a competent team, in a clinic or hospital. In this sense, hair transplantation should not be confused with the various non-surgical hair interventions. It aims to give the patient back hair, where he had more or little, which will grow back naturally.
Hair Transplant: Practical Information
There are different hair transplant techniques, but the principle always remains the same. The choice of their use depends on the patient’s hair implantation, his needs, but also his budget. Anyway, it is common for several procedures to be combined, depending on the scalp’s flexibility, the extent of the baldness, or the nature of the hair. Indeed, the surgeon adapts the procedures accordingly, depending on the age and the more or less rapid development of baldness.
Hair Implants: the Procedure
Two techniques remain mainly used to achieve the best results, FUT and FUE.
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) Transplant
The FUT transplant technique also called strip sampling, is the most widely practiced in the world. It consists of taking a strip of the scalp in the nape of the neck with a height of 1 to 2 cm for a width of 20 to 25 cm. From this strip, grafts (or follicular units) are extracted to transplant them one by one on the bald areas. This type of operation leaves a scar on the sample. The latter can be easily covered by letting the hair grow.
FUE Transplant (Follicular Unit Extraction)
For its part, the FUE transplant technique is longer but gives excellent results. This technique has the advantage of reducing the size of the donor area and therefore making the scars less visible. To do this, the grafts are taken from several places via micro-punches with a diameter of less than 1 mm. As with FUT, the collected grafts are then transplanted to the bald areas. This technique is, therefore, more suitable for people who wear short hair.
